Terms of Service
Last updated: 22 July 2026
These terms cover your use of the Spendwise app and website. By creating an account you agree to them.
1. What Spendwise is (and isn't)
Spendwise is a personal-finance information tool: it categorises your transactions, highlights recurring costs, and estimates potential savings. Spendwise is not regulated financial advice. We are not a financial adviser, bank, or lender. Savings figures are estimates based on available information — "potential", never guaranteed. For important decisions, talk to a licensed professional.
2. Your account
You must provide accurate information, use an account you are permitted to create, and keep your password secure. You're responsible for activity on your account. You may connect only bank accounts you are authorised to access. Tell us promptly if you believe your Spendwise account has been compromised.
3. Bank connections
Bank data is accessed read-only through Akahu, with your explicit authorisation, which you can revoke at any time in Spendwise or through Akahu. We never receive your bank password, initiate payments, or move money.
4. AI features
The AI Coach and Money brief use automated systems and may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable information. Check important facts independently. AI output is general information, not personalised regulated financial advice, and must not be treated as a guarantee or instruction. Do not enter information you do not want processed as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are purchased through Apple. Prices and billing periods are shown before purchase in your App Store currency. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges your Apple Account and handles billing, cancellation, and refund requests. You can manage or cancel under your Apple Account subscriptions. Deleting Spendwise does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Features may vary by plan. If a purchase, renewal, refund, grace period, or cancellation is still processing, access may take a short time to update. We may change future prices or plan inclusions in accordance with Apple's rules; any required notice or consent will be provided through Apple.
Cancelling does not remove paid access before the end of the current billing period. When paid access ends, Spendwise closes any bank connection and removes imported bank data. Your Spendwise profile, manual budget, goals, and Money profile remain available on the Free plan.
6. Acceptable use
Don't attempt to access other users' data, disrupt the service, evade feature or usage limits, reverse engineer the app beyond what law permits, or use Spendwise for anything unlawful.
7. Accuracy
We work hard to categorise and analyse correctly, but bank data is messy and automatic categorisation is imperfect. Pending transactions, connection delays, merchant data, and automatic classifications may affect what you see. Your bank's records are the source of truth.
8. Service availability
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features. Access can depend on Apple, Akahu, banks, Supabase, Anthropic, RevenueCat, and network services outside our control. We aim for reliability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.
9. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law (including any rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act that cannot be excluded), we're not liable for losses arising from your use of the app, including decisions made based on information it shows.
10. Ending your use
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account), which permanently removes operational Spendwise data and revokes a connected Akahu token. Account deletion is irreversible and does not cancel an Apple subscription. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms or present a security risk.
11. Intellectual property
Spendwise's software, branding, design, and content belong to their respective rights holders. These terms give you a personal, limited, revocable right to use the app; they do not transfer ownership.
12. Changes
We may update these terms; meaningful changes will be reflected on this page with a new date. Continuing to use Spendwise after changes means you accept them.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
